About Us
In 1963, Ed Doige and his wife, Elsie, moved to Spencer, Indiana. They carried with them a family sawmill legacy that began in Canada around 1850. Spotting a promising opportunity along Rattlesnake Road in Owen County, he established his own sawmill. Over the years, Ed forged strong relationships and served the local community by providing materials for log homes, custom lumber, pallets, and even wood roof shingles. His dedication extended to participating in Owen County wood chopping competitions, where he won numerous awards.
In 2012, with a sense of responsibility and vision, his grandson, Travis Coffey, stepped forward to take over the sawmill. Revitalizing the mill into a thriving business was challenging, with outdated equipment and aging infrastructure. Over the next few years, Travis and his wife, Lori, invested in secondary equipment upgrades to enhance the mill's functionality.
In 2024, the Coffey family acquired a well-maintained Hurdle sawmill, marking a significant turning point for the family business. Coffey-Doige Hardwood Products owes its success to the exceptional leaders and employees throughout the years and is committed to serving the community for many years to come.
